A Note On: Substack

Navigating today’s digital realm while continuing to fuel your curiosity as you wander along your creative path without being distracted by cute animals or battling the guilt of scrolling through too much brain-numbing content and world gossip is a chaotic minefield. I want to do something less boring mentally draining instead.

I am a little nervous to step into this well-written realm, yet here I am, exploring Substack because I want a space like the one I dream about creating with you. So far, I have gleaned I can pop on my Substack app and read without distraction. I choose who I interact with and which communities I’m a part of and have conversations without being trolled. There’s no advertising, just support to do well

It can never go as far as to replace the pleasure of holding a book in hand, but it certainly creates the sensation of running your fingers along the edges of bound books and them landing, intuitively, in your hand.

As a writer on Substack, I can begin to shake off the daily worry of wondering if I can sustain my creative choices when I dive into other worlds and encourage others to explore their own adventures - I am being supported here.

I love collaborative adventures, the creation, the learning, the magic, and I have spent years taking down the walls within and without that place an unwelcome damn in my creative river. I hope we can keep moving that damn, together.

So here I am inviting you along on my Substack adventure to see where it will take us, and let’s ensure we have a magical time as we go on our way.

Whispers from My Wild Garden has been composting in my soul, possibly for a lifetime I guess I’ll never truly know every single link in the chain of events that pulled me here.

From an early age, I remember how I felt when I was lost within nature, transported to a world that felt calm and free and fed my curiosity endlessly.

I invite you to sneak in through the hole in the garden wall and join me as I wander in my wild garden. Meet the residents, and learn to bloom like the seeds I planted with love. We’ll hang out by the fire and warm our hearts, while we put the world to rights and get our daily exercise through belly laughs and a little digging. Yes, we will be muddy, out in all weathers and watching our creations impatiently until they flourish and take us with them as they run to seed and catch the wind.

One of the things I love to do is hold space to encourage writers, and passionate humans to play, delve into their imagination and invite the possibilities it brings. I am also eager to share all of my own stumbles and learnings, it is like I’m holding out a flashlight in the dark so you know you are not alone in climbing this mountain called life.

I want this to be a space where we stretch our comfort zones together, I’ll take a step, hold out my hand and you can take a step too.

As the garden whispers, we will get wilder.

‘Whispers from My Wild Garden is both a metaphorical tale and a magical adventure. Now it is time to welcome you inside, well, outside mostly.

Are you coming?

Hello there, you gorgeous human. I’m Sam.

There are two things in this world that enable me to embody all that I am and can be. They are being immersed in nature and spilling ink on the page.

If I have not been out immersed in the wild in some way for more than a few days, I can not breathe. And somehow, when I write, I find myself otherworldly, neither present nor dreaming. It is magical. It is my way of inspiring the world to be a kinder place, one drop of ink and barefoot walk at a time.

Life’s been a stumble that has taken me a little while to find my way back to the freckly wild child I used to be hard to find as a child.

I’m a writing coach, a Mum to four (almost) all grown-up children, and a wife to Jon, my unexpected rock. You’ll find me in Wiltshire, but my heart will always belong to North Wales. I trust my imagination to show me the way and overcome any challenge. You will find that play, curiosity and compassion (with a little directive kick) will always be my way of adventuring with you.

Writing has given me a way to release, share and create in a way I had forgotten about. It has brought me back to myself and helped me grow into a woman I thought I could only ever be inspired to be.

I hope we get to know each other a little more soon.
