WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP?
I distinctly remember being asked this question often when I was younger and I was about as sure then as I am now. Even though I may not have realised it back then.
Do you remember who and what you wanted to be?
I think I covered the usual ballet dancer and nurse, typically in the 70s I think they were the go to answers for most girls. And of course singing (which I still yearn for) and apart from the school choir I never did please the thousands with my angelic (eh hem) voice - although I do remember one time singing 'hey frankie' into a hairbrush with my friends for parents... those were the days ;)
Generally as a child my parents could never find me. I'd be off in the wilderness from dawn till dusk, seeking new adventures and finding new lands.
Somewhere along the road I stopped being asked and people started telling me I couldn't do that...blah, blah, blah...trouble is I believed them.
So I never did become a mechanic like Charlene from Neighbours, or Prime Minister (yet!) and instead I got lost. The good side of being lost is you get to experience a variety of career choices and can quite firmly profess what you DON'T want to do with your life.
So I have been and done a lot and on the other side I can quite honestly say that your childhood is where the real you lives.
So lately I have quite happily started doodling again, singing into hairbrushes and I am most definitely looking for adventures and far away lands (aka the wilderness).
I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up - it really doesn't matter anymore.
I am extremely happy exploring the possibilities though.
Do whatever lights you up.
So do you remember yet? Let me know below. What did you want to be when you grew up? And is that what happened or something different? Would love to know.
with love and fairy cakes,
Sam x
